Incumbent Worker Training

Louisiana Technical College (LTC) Campuses have been involved with training grants for decades. Presently, many LTC Campuses are involved with the Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP) of the Louisiana Department of Labor utilizing millions in training dollars. The Incumbent Worker Training Program is designed to benefit business and industry by assisting in skill development of existing employees and Increasing employee productivity and growth of the company. Both are expected to result in the creation of new jobs, the retention of jobs that otherwise may have been eliminated, and an increase in wages for the trained workers.
Training on behalf of an individual employer may not be funded more than once in a two-year period. The Louisiana Technical Colleges are proud to provide this training to various businesses and industries.

To be eligible for participation in this initiative, a qualified business must have operated in Louisiana and contributed to the state's Unemployment Insurance System for at least three years. In addition, an employer, or consortium of employers with similar needs, must have at least 15 employees to be trained. Special emphasis is placed on entry-level incumbent worker training. Preference is given to employers that select public training institutions such as the Louisiana Technical College.

Incumbent Worker Training is right for you if you are:

  • An employer seeking to prevent job loss caused by obsolete skills, technological change, or national or global competition.
  • An employer seeking to create, update, or retain jobs in a labor demand occupation, or to prevent the likely loss of jobs.
  • A labor or community-based organization seeking to provide customized training for a labor demand occupation.
  • A consortium of educational institutions, employers, labor, or community-based organizations seeking to provide customized training in labor-demand occupations.
  • A local economic development entity and one or more eligible employers seeking to provide customized training in labor demand occupations.
